In a sunny flower meadow, cracked eggshell pieces cradle Daisy, the fluffy yellow duckling, who stands amid bright blooms under morning light, peering around for Mama Duck.
One sunny morning, bright and new, an egg rolled out, oh what to do! It tumbled down from Mama's nest, and landed soft where flowers rest. The shell went crack! Then crack some more! A duckling peeked out to explore. "Hello?" called Daisy, looking round. But Mama Duck was not to be found. Her yellow fluff was soft and bright, her big eyes sparkled in the light. "Where is my mama?" Daisy said. She'd have to search the farm instead!
In the sunlit barnyard grass, Daisy gazes up at Clara the Cow, who bends her spotted head kindly toward the tiny duckling beside a weather-worn wooden fence.
Through barnyard grass, brave Daisy went, to find her mom was her intent. She saw someone both big and tall, with spots of black and white and all. "Excuse me, are you Mama mine?" asked Daisy in a voice so fine. Clara the Cow looked down with care, at little Daisy standing there. "I'm not your mama, little one," she mooed so gently in the sun. "But don't give up, keep looking round, your mama surely will be found!"
On a bright pasture hillside, Daisy pauses before Sammy the Sheep, whose fluffy white wool glows in afternoon light beside green grass and scattered wildflowers.
Daisy waddled on once more, her little orange feet felt sore. Then fluffy white caught Daisy's eye, she heard a gentle "Baa" nearby. "Are you my mama?" Daisy asked. Sammy the Sheep smiled at her task. "I'm woolly, soft, and white, you see, but your dear mama I can't be. Your mama has some feathers bright, and loves to swim both day and night." "Thank you!" chirped Daisy with a peep, and waved goodbye to kind old sheep.
Beside a muddy puddle at the hedge’s edge, Daisy listens as Penny the Pig, pink and round, points her snout toward distant water under late-day golden sunshine.
Near the muddy puddle's edge, sat Penny Pig beside the hedge. Her curly tail went round and round, her pink skin made a cheerful sound. "Excuse me, Penny, can you say, if you're my mama here today?" Penny oinked and shook her head, "I'm not your mama, dear," she said. "Your mama's beak is orange and long, she teaches ducklings swimming songs!" Daisy sighed but thanked her friend, "I'll keep on searching to the end!"
Outside the red chicken coop in warm afternoon light, Hattie the Hen stands on a wooden ramp, cheerfully explaining to curious Daisy that Mama Duck awaits by the blue pond beyond the yard.
By the chicken coop so red, Hattie Hen raised up her head. Her feathers brown, her comb so bright, she looked at Daisy with delight. "Are you my mama?" Daisy tried. "Oh no, sweet duckling," Hen replied. "I have feathers just like you, but I can't swim like ducklings do! Your mama loves the water blue, the pond is where you'll find your crew!" Daisy's eyes grew big and round, "The pond! That's where she can be found!"
Along a grassy path near the old oak tree, Daisy scampers toward a sparkling pond that reflects late-afternoon sun, her orange feet mid-stride and wings spread with excitement.
With tiny steps and hopeful heart, toward the pond, Daisy did start. She hurried past the old oak tree, "My mama's waiting there for me!" The grass grew soft beneath her feet, the water's sound was oh so sweet. Her orange feet went flip-flop-flap, she'd almost finished up her lap. The sparkles on the water bright, made everything feel just so right. "I'm coming, Mama!" Daisy cheered. The pond was close, almost so near!
At the pond’s edge under soft sunset light, Mama Duck lifts Daisy into a warm winged hug while several Sibling Ducks swim nearby amid gentle ripples and floating lily pads.
At the pond's edge, Daisy stopped, her tired little body flopped. Then she heard a special sound, the quacking that she'd longed to've found! "Mama!" Daisy called out loud. A white duck swam through ducklings proud. "My baby!" Mama Duck cried out, and hurried over without doubt. She wrapped her wings around Daisy tight, "I searched for you with all my might! The egg rolled far, but now you're here, my precious little duckling dear!"
Beneath bright morning sun on the pond, Daisy dives through a sparkling splash beside playful Sibling Ducks while Mama Duck watches proudly from a smooth rock.
The Sibling Ducks swam up to play, "We have a sister here today!" They splashed and quacked and played around, such happy, joyful duckling sounds! Mama Duck taught Daisy how to paddle, swim, and softly waddle. Daisy learned to dive and splash, to make the water jump and crash. "I'm home!" sang Daisy, safe at last, her journey through the farm now passed. With Mama near and siblings too, her duckling dreams had all come true!
