During a lightning flash in the dim living-room, Dad sits on the couch pulling Noah and Autumn close while rain-streaked windows glow white. Soft TV light casts blue highlights on scattered cushions and a remote beside them.
Rain pattered against the windows as Mom and Dad sat on the couch with Noah and Autumn. The TV glowed softly in the dim room. BOOM! Thunder crashed and lightning flashed bright white. "Whoa!" Noah shouted, jumping. Autumn grabbed Mom's arm. "It's loud!" she said. Dad smiled and pulled them close. "It's just a storm, kiddos," he said gently. "We're safe and cozy inside." Mom nodded. "The thunder can't hurt us here." The twins snuggled closer as rain drummed on the roof.
In the flickering living-room at night, Dad stands near the TV projecting a bunny-shaped hand shadow on the ceiling, while Autumn giggles beside him. Lightning outside silhouettes furniture, and their long shadows ripple across rain-dotted walls.
Another lightning flash lit up the living room. Shadows danced across the walls. "Look!" Autumn pointed at the ceiling. "The shadows are moving!" Noah giggled and waved his arms. "I'm making a shadow too!" Dad stood up and made a funny shadow with his hands. "It's a bunny!" he announced. Mom laughed and made a bird shadow. The twins clapped and tried making their own shadow animals. Thunder rumbled again, but this time they barely noticed. They were too busy playing their new shadow game together.
On the cozy couch under warm lamplight, Dad opens a picture book about a mouse while Noah and Autumn nestle against him with steam rising from their cocoa mugs. Rain lashes the window behind them, highlighting the peaceful scene.
"Who wants hot chocolate?" Mom asked, heading to the kitchen. "Me! Me!" the twins shouted together. Soon everyone had warm mugs. Dad pulled out a picture book. "Story time," he said. Noah and Autumn cuddled on either side of him. Outside, the storm raged on, but inside felt warm and peaceful. Dad read about a brave little mouse on an adventure. The twins listened closely, sipping their chocolate. "I like this story," Autumn whispered. Noah nodded sleepily. Mom smiled, watching her family together.
In the softly lit bedroom, Dad gently lowers sleeping Noah into his bed while Mom tucks Autumn under a star-patterned blanket. Rain-washed moonlight filters through the window, illuminating plush animals and casting calm silver hues.
The storm began to quiet down. Rain fell softer now, like a gentle lullaby. Noah yawned big. Autumn's eyes drooped closed. "I think someone's getting sleepy," Mom said softly. Dad closed the book and stood up carefully. He carried Noah while Mom carried Autumn to their room. They tucked the twins into bed with their favorite stuffed animals. "The storm is almost over," Dad whispered. "Sweet dreams, little ones." Outside, the last rumbles of thunder faded away. Inside, the family was safe, warm, and happy.
