Under bright midday sunlight filtering through clear water, Selim in a bulky diving suit hovers above a vibrant coral reef, clutching his underwater camera with both hands and grinning widely as colorful fish swirl around him.
Selim put on his diving suit and jumped into the blue ocean. "I want to see real sharks!" he said excitedly. He swam down, down, down into the water. The ocean was full of colorful fish and pretty coral. Selim held his underwater camera tight. This would be his biggest adventure yet!
In the sunlit underwater reef, Selim waves merrily with one hand while aiming his camera with the other at a small reef shark with smooth gray skin and sharp teeth that circles coral rocks a few feet away.
A small reef shark swam past Selim. "Hello, shark!" Selim waved happily. The shark had smooth gray skin and sharp teeth. "Sharks live in oceans all around the world," Selim remembered from his books. The friendly shark circled around some coral rocks. Selim took a picture of his new friend.
Deep among shadow-dappled corals, Selim kneels on the sandy seabed, scribbling on a waterproof board, while a small reef shark with smooth gray skin and sharp teeth snaps up a striped fish inches from the rocks.
Selim watched the shark hunt for food. "Sharks eat fish, squid, and crabs," he said to himself. The shark used its nose to find a hiding fish. Snap! The shark caught its dinner quickly. "Wow, sharks have amazing senses!" Selim was so excited to learn. He wrote notes on his waterproof board.
Near the sun-lit surface, Selim ascends beside a small reef shark with smooth gray skin and sharp teeth, turning to smile and wave goodbye as pale beams shimmer through turquoise water and bubbles drift upward.
Selim swam beside the shark one more time. "Did you know sharks have been around for millions of years?" he told the shark. The shark's teeth would grow back if they fell out. Some sharks must keep swimming to breathe! "You are so cool," Selim said goodbye. He swam up with wonderful memories and new knowledge.
