Ezra ran ahead on the sandy beach, his little legs kicking up sprays of sand. Leo toddled behind, trying to keep up with his big brother. Mummy and Daddy walked hand in hand while Moo and Pops followed at a leisurely pace.

"Look!" shouted Ezra, pointing at something black sticking out of the sand. The strange rock jutted out like a shark's fin from the wet shoreline. Mummy hurried over to see what Ezra had found.

Daddy pulled small plastic shovels from the beach bag. "Let's see what's under there," he suggested, handing a shovel to Ezra. Leo clapped his hands excitedly as everyone began to dig around the strange black rock.

As they dug, more shiny black stones appeared beneath the sand. "It's bigger than I thought," said Pops, brushing sand from a smooth, glassy piece. Moo helped Leo scoop away tiny handfuls of sand.

The sea pulled back slowly, revealing more of their discovery. "The tide is going out," explained Daddy to the boys. "Now we can see more of our special rocks!"

As the water retreated, they could see the rocks formed a large mound. "It's like a little mountain under the sand," gasped Mummy. Ezra's eyes grew wide with wonder.

Pops adjusted his glasses and examined the black rocks carefully. "This reminds me of volcanic rock," he said thoughtfully. "I saw something similar in a museum once."

Ezra collected small pieces of the shiny black rock in his bucket. Leo found a piece shaped like a heart and showed it to Moo. "That's a special treasure," she told him with a smile.

Mummy took photos of their discovery with her phone. "These rocks are called obsidian," she read from her screen. "They come from volcanoes!"

"What's a volcano?" asked Ezra, his head tilted curiously. Daddy explained how volcanoes were mountains that sometimes erupted with hot lava. "But this one is very old and not hot anymore," he assured the wide-eyed boys.

Moo spread out a blanket near their discovery for lunch. They ate sandwiches and fruit while admiring their find. Leo kept pointing at the black rocks and saying "big!"

Other people walking on the beach began to notice the unusual rocks. "What did you find?" asked a curious woman. Ezra proudly explained about their volcano discovery.

A group of people with clipboards and cameras approached their discovery. "We're scientists," a friendly woman told the family. "We heard something special might have appeared on this beach."

The scientists examined the rocks carefully and took measurements. "This is part of an ancient underwater volcano," they confirmed. "It's been hidden under the sea for thousands of years!"

"You made an important discovery," the scientist told Ezra and Leo. Pops puffed out his chest proudly. "My grandsons have good eyes," he said.

On the drive home, Ezra and Leo clutched their volcanic treasures. "We found a real volcano, Mummy!" Ezra said sleepily. It had been the most amazing beach day ever.
