Bert the little bear woke up extra early on his birthday. He bounced on his soft paws with excitement. He hoped that today would be full of wonderful surprises. When he stepped into the kitchen, everything was very quiet. Bert looked around with a little hope in his heart.

In the kitchen, Mama Bear was humming a gentle tune. Papa Bear was snoozing by the warm fireplace. Little Pip was busy playing peek-a-boo with her favorite stuffed bunny. Bert felt a little sadness as no one wished him a happy birthday yet. He ate his breakfast quietly, wondering if something exciting was coming.

At school, Bert's friends greeted him with their usual cheerful hellos. No one said, 'Happy Birthday!' His teacher, Mrs. Honeycomb, was busy with her lesson plans. Bert tried to smile even though his heart felt a little heavy. He thought that maybe his birthday would be just like any other day.

When Bert came home, he opened the door and heard a loud 'Surprise!' from all around. His family and friends jumped out from behind the furniture with big smiles. They carried a giant chocolate cake decorated with sparkling candles and tiny gummy bears. Bert's eyes widened with joy and he felt his heart fill with happiness. He blew out his candles, making a wish for many more happy birthdays.
