In the backyard under storm-dark afternoon clouds, Elonic gazes upward wide-eyed while Lucy points at the swirling sky beside him; Bee, the white dog with blue eyes, bounces across damp grass. Wind whips their clothes and rustles nearby trees.
Elonic looked up at the sky so gray, dark clouds were rolling in that day. "A storm is coming!" Lucy said with care, as wind began to blow through her light brown hair. Paul pointed up with worried eyes, "Look at those clouds! They're quite a size!" Little Bee barked and ran around, her fluffy white fur bouncing on the ground. "Don't worry, friends," said Lucy with a smile, "We'll be safe inside for a little while." But Elonic felt scared deep down, as thunder rumbled through the town. His friends all gathered close to see, how brave their friend Elonic could be.
Inside the softly lit living-room, Elonic sits on a rug covering his ears and squeezing shut eyes while Lucy kneels beside him holding his hand; Paul stands near a window confidently counting “one, two, three” as distant lightning flickers outside.
BOOM went the thunder, loud and strong! Elonic jumped and said, "That sounds all wrong!" He covered his ears and closed his eyes tight, wishing the storm would end with the night. Lucy held his hand and squeezed it so, "Remember what Mommy taught us to know? Count the seconds till the light, between thunder's sound and lightning bright!" Paul nodded his head and started to count, "One, two, three!" in a voice that amount. Bee snuggled close to Elonic's feet, her soft warm fur was oh so sweet. "The storm's not close," Paul said with pride, "We're safe and sound here inside!"
In the living-room lit by warm lamp-light, Lucy stretches a blanket between couch backs while Paul stacks pillows to form a tent-like fort; Bee pokes her white head through the entrance, tail wagging beside scattered storybooks and toy blocks.
Inside the house they gathered round, away from all the stormy sound. Lucy found some books to read, and Paul brought toys they might need. Bee jumped up on Elonic's lap, while rain went tap-tap-tap-tap-tap. "Let's make a fort!" said Lucy bright, "With blankets soft and pillows light!" They pulled the cushions from the couch, and Bee ran in without a grouch. Paul draped blankets like a tent, and in their fort the three friends went. Elonic felt a little better now, with friends around he'd make it somehow. "This fort is strong!" Paul declared, "Inside, we're safe and well prepared!"
Inside the dim blanket fort, lit by a sudden lightning flash filtering through fabric folds, Lucy sits cross-legged spinning her tale with raised hands while Paul brandishes a toy ship; Elonic leans forward wide-eyed, shadows dancing on their faces.
Lucy began to tell a tale, about a knight and a friendly whale. "They sailed together through the rain, across the ocean, over the main!" Paul added parts about a ship, that went on a very special trip. Elonic listened to their story, full of adventure, fun, and glory. Bee wagged her tail with happy cheer, showing them there's nothing to fear. The thunder boomed, but not as scary, when friends told stories bright and merry. "Your turn!" said Lucy with a grin, "What story is hiding deep within?" Elonic thought, then started slow, about a hero he would know.
Within the blanket fort at night, Elonic kneels beneath the low canvas, speaking boldly while a white lightning flash through the nearby doorway silhouettes his face; Bee rests at his knee, blue eyes shining, ears perked toward her storyteller.
"Once there was a boy so brave," Elonic said in their cozy cave. "He wasn't scared of storms at all, whether they were big or small!" Paul and Lucy listened near, as the story became more clear. "He'd dance and sing in pouring rain, and never once would he complain!" Bee barked softly, as if to say, "Tell us more about this day!" "But then one night," Elonic went on, "The brave boy's courage felt all gone. A storm came bigger than before..." Just then, lightning lit their door! The flash was bright, the boom was loud, but Elonic kept talking, feeling proud.
On the fort’s cushioned floor under cozy lamplight, Lucy stands clapping excitedly while Paul grins beside her; Bee spins in three tight circles between them, fluffy tail blurred, as blankets drape overhead like colourful tent walls.
"What happened next?" asked Paul with care, as all four friends huddled there. "The boy remembered he's not alone, his friends were with him in his home. Together they were strong and brave, like heroes in a story wave!" Lucy clapped her hands with glee, "Just like us! Paul, you, and me!" Bee spun around in circles three, showing solidarity. "That's right!" said Paul, "We're here for you, whatever storms we're going through!" Elonic smiled a little smile, he'd been brave now for a while. The thunder didn't seem so bad, with the best friends he'd ever had.
At the living-room window on a rainy afternoon, Lucy kneels pointing to racing raindrops streaking the glass, Paul crouches labeling his “contestant” with a grin, and Elonic presses his nose against the pane, eager eyes tracking the watery competitors.
Lucy crawled toward the window bright, "Come see the rain! It's quite a sight!" Elonic hesitated, then followed slow, his friends beside him as they'd go. The raindrops raced down window glass, like little runners trying to pass. "Look!" said Paul, "They're having races! Watch them run to different places!" Bee put her paws up on the sill, watching raindrops race downhill. "Which one will win?" asked Lucy there, pointing to the drops with care. Elonic watched the racing rain, finding beauty in the chain. "That one's mine!" he called out loud, no longer frightened by the cloud.
At the open window after sunset, purple-gold lightning forks across the sky; Paul raises a finger counting “five, six,” Lucy grins calling it fireworks, while Elonic watches wide-eyed, the brief flash bathing their faces in violet light.
Flash! The lightning lit the sky, painting pictures way up high. "It's like fireworks!" Lucy said, as branches danced above their head. Paul counted seconds like before, "One, two, three, four, five, six... more!" "The storm is moving far away," Elonic said, "It cannot stay!" Bee wagged her tail in happy dance, as if to say, "Now's your chance! Don't be afraid, it's just a show, of nature's power and light's glow!" Another flash lit up the room, but Elonic didn't feel the gloom. Instead he watched with wonder new, the purple, gold, and bright white hue.
Seated on the sofa beneath warm ceiling-light, Lucy spreads an illustrated book across her knees, thoughtfully explaining storms’ gifts while Elonic listens attentively beside her; Paul nods from the carpet, thunder-muted rain streaking the window behind them.
"Why do storms come anyway?" Elonic asked his friends that day. Lucy thought and then explained, "They bring the water for the rain! The plants and trees need drinks to grow, and storms help rivers overflow." Paul added with his knowledge true, "They clean the air and sky so blue! After storms the world smells fresh, and everything seems to refresh." Bee barked as if she understood, that storms could bring some things that's good. "So storms aren't bad?" Elonic wondered, as outside rolled the rain and thunder. "They're nature's way," said Lucy kind, "Of helping Earth, we come to find."
By the window where rain lightens, Lucy spreads her arms describing rainbow colors, Paul leans forward eagerly, and Bee leaps in a small excited whirl; outside, broken clouds glow with pale post-storm daylight waiting to reveal the arc.
"And after storms," Paul said with glee, "Comes something wonderful to see!" "What's that?" asked Elonic, curious now, "Tell me, tell me, show me how!" "A rainbow!" Lucy said so bright, "With colors beautiful and light! Red and orange, yellow too, green and purple, pink and blue!" "A rainbow shows the storm has passed, and sunny weather's here at last!" Bee jumped up and spun around, making little yipping sounds. "Can we see one today?" asked the boy, his voice now filled with hope and joy. "Let's watch together," Lucy said, "When clouds above are not so spread."
Inside the now quiet living-room, Elonic stands tall, grinning as he slaps a triumphant high-five with Paul; Bee sits at their feet wagging, soft morning light replacing storm shadows through the window.
The thunder now was far away, just gentle rumbles that seemed to say, "Don't worry, friend, I'm moving on, soon the scary storm will be gone." Elonic stood up tall and proud, no longer frightened by the cloud. "I did it!" he exclaimed with cheer, "I made it through without much fear!" Paul high-fived him, "Yes, you did! You're the bravest little kid!" Lucy hugged him, Bee licked his face, all together in their safe space. "Next storm," Elonic declared so bold, "I'll be brave, no matter what I'm told! With friends beside me, I can be, as brave as brave can ever be!"
Outside on the sunlit driveway, Elonic and Lucy leap into a shining puddle, water droplets arcing around their laughing faces, while Bee dashes through another splash; a vivid rainbow stretches overhead against the clearing blue sky.
The rain slowed down to gentle drops, the thunder made its final pops. The four friends rushed outside to see, the world after the storm's decree. Puddles sparkled on the ground, reflecting sky without a sound. "Jump!" cried Lucy, splashing high, as water drops flew toward the sky. Paul and Elonic jumped in too, while Bee ran through the puddles new. And there above them, shining bright, a rainbow filled the sky with light! "It's beautiful!" Elonic said, with wonder filling up his head. "Thank you, friends, for helping me, to brave the storm and finally see, that storms bring beauty, rain, and more. I'm not afraid like before!"
