Channa woke up early on Friday morning, excited for Shabbat to begin at sunset. 'Today we prepare for our special day of rest,' Mama reminded her as they ate breakfast. Channa helped sweep the floors and dust the shelves until everything sparkled. 'Our home should be beautiful to welcome Shabbat,' she said proudly.

In the kitchen, delicious smells filled the air as Mama prepared chicken soup. Channa helped knead the dough for the braided challah bread. 'Shabbat foods are extra special,' Mama explained while they worked together. Papa came home early to help, bringing fresh flowers for the table.

Channa carefully placed the best dishes on the clean white tablecloth. She folded napkins and arranged the shining silverware just right. The challah was covered with a special embroidered cloth. 'Our Shabbat table looks like it belongs to a queen,' Papa said.

As the sun began to set, Channa put on her prettiest dress. Mama lit the Shabbat candles and waved her hands over the flames. The family sang blessings over the wine and challah bread. Channa smiled as Shabbat peace filled their home.
