Morning sunlight streaks the hallway of their home. Charles, in a shiny red toy helmet, aims his flashlight forward while Caroline stands by the doorframe, clapping and grinning in the warm indoor glow.
Charles woke early. 'It’s my VERY important day!' he announced. He buckled his red toy helmet and grabbed a flashlight. The hallway became a firehouse. 'Go, Firefighter Charles!' cheered Caroline. Siren hummed: vroom-woo!
In the bright kitchen corner, a block tower wrapped with red scarf-'flames' smolders under warm midday light. Charles kneels, spraying a blue water mister at the tower while Caroline speaks into a toy radio beside him.
The block tower flickered with pretend flames. 'Dispatch, where’s the fire?' Charles asked. 'Kitchen corner!' Caroline radioed. Charles sprayed his water mister: pssshh! The scarf-flames drooped. 'Fire out,' he whispered, grinning.
Under the dappled afternoon sun in the backyard, a small gray kitten shivers beneath a leafy bush. Charles gently lifts the kitten with both hands as Caroline crouches nearby, offering a reassuring smile.
A tiny mew sounded from the yard. 'New emergency!' Charles said. A small gray kitten shivered under a bush. 'Slow and gentle,' Caroline coached. Charles scooped Mittens carefully. 'Rescue complete,' he breathed proudly.
Soft evening light fills the living-room floor scattered with puzzle pieces. Caroline concentrates on fitting the final piece while Charles kneels opposite her, handing over another piece, both children smiling in quiet triumph.
Back inside, Caroline frowned at a tricky puzzle. 'I can’t finish,' she sighed. Charles knelt. 'Firefighters help teammates!' he said, handing pieces. Together they clicked the picture. 'Important job: showing up,' Caroline smiled.
