In the sunlit kitchen, Chayce sits at the wooden table twirling his long brown hair while Mom, smiling warmly, sticks labels onto two empty glass jars marked Save and Spend; colored markers and scissors lie scattered beside them.
Chayce twirled his long brown hair. “Mom, can I buy that shiny toy car?” Mom, with long black hair, smiled. “Let’s try a Two Jar Plan.” They labeled jars Save and Spend.
Afternoon light fills the kitchen as Mom drops shiny coins onto the table; Chayce grins, sliding two coins into the Save jar and one into the Spend jar, their glass walls already glinting with earlier earnings.
After chores, Mom dropped coins on the table. “You folded towels like a pro,” she said. “How many go to Save?” Chayce counted, “Two for Save, one for Spend!” The jars clinked happily.
Under bright store fluorescents in the toy-car aisle, Chayce pauses before the gleaming model car, then turns away with a proud smile while Mom watches from a step behind, hands resting gently on the shopping cart handle.
At the store, the toy car winked from the shelf. “Spend now?” whispered Chayce. Mom asked, “What’s your mission?” He breathed deep. “Save today, zoom later,” he decided, walking past with proud steps.
At the toy store checkout counter beneath crisp ceiling lights, Chayce hands a stack of saved coins to a smiling cashier while clutching his brand-new red toy car; beside him, Mom raises both arms in triumphant cheer.
Weeks later, the Save jar gleamed full. “You did it!” Mom cheered. Chayce paid at the register and held his new car. “Saving felt strong.” He placed new coins back into Save.
