In the sunny kitchen morning, Granny sits at a wooden table plating steaming pancakes while smiling at John Jr, who sits opposite in a high chair clapping happily; syrup, butter, and a small cup decorate the table.
John Jr woke up to the smell of pancakes. "Good morning, Granny!" he said with a big smile. "Good morning, my sweet boy," Granny replied. They sat at the table, and Granny said, "Today is Sunday, so we're going to church." John Jr clapped his hands, excited for their special day. Together, they finished breakfast and got ready.
Inside the cozy bedroom, morning light filters through curtains; Granny kneels brushing John Jr's short brown hair before a dresser mirror, while John Jr giggles and gently pats Granny's long brown hair, both faces bright with affection.
Granny dressed John Jr in his best little shirt. She brushed his short brown hair gently. "You look wonderful," Granny said happily. John Jr giggled and tried to help Granny fix her long brown hair. "Are we going to see Jesus at church?" he asked. Granny smiled and nodded, "We'll learn about him today."
On a sunlit neighborhood sidewalk, Granny walks holding John Jr's hand, pointing toward blooming red flowers along the path; birds flutter overhead and a distant white church steeple rises above green trees against a clear blue sky.
Hand in hand, they walked down the sunny street. Birds sang as Granny pointed out the pretty flowers. "Jesus loves all of creation," she told John Jr. John Jr tried to skip like the birds hopped. Granny laughed and said, "God made you special too." The church steeple peeked above the trees ahead.
Inside the softly lit church, colored sunlight streams through a stained-glass window of Jesus with sheep onto Granny and John Jr seated in a wooden pew; John Jr leans forward, eyes wide, while Granny whispers beside him.
Inside the church, everyone greeted Granny and John Jr warmly. The pastor smiled and waved, "Welcome!" Granny whispered, "We sit and listen quietly now." John Jr peeked at the colorful window showing Jesus and the sheep. "Who is that, Granny?" he whispered. "That's Jesus, who loves everyone," Granny replied softly.
From their pew inside the bright church, Granny squeezes John Jr's small hand while the pastor speaks at the pulpit; John Jr listens wide-eyed, sunlight catching his face, and the open Bible rests on the pew in front.
The pastor began telling a story about Jesus helping people. John Jr listened closely, eyes wide with wonder. "Jesus was very kind," Granny said. The story talked about sharing and loving each other. John Jr squeezed Granny's hand. "I want to be kind like Jesus," he whispered.
During the hymn, afternoon light fills the church; Granny sits with John Jr on her lap, smiling as she softly sings, while John Jr claps rhythmically, a hymnbook open on the bench and other congregants standing beyond.
Everyone stood and began to sing a happy song. "Jesus loves me, this I know," the people sang. Granny sang softly, rocking John Jr in her lap. John Jr clapped and tried to sing along. The church filled with joyful music. "Singing makes my heart happy," John Jr said.
In the quiet sanctuary, warm lamplight hangs overhead as everyone bows; Granny kneels at the pew edge, hands folded, eyes closed, while John Jr mimics the pose but peeks one eye open, a serene altar visible in background.
The pastor said, "Let's pray together." Granny folded her hands, and John Jr tried to do the same. "Dear God, thank you for our family," Granny prayed. John Jr peeked and whispered, "Thank you for pancakes." Granny smiled at his sweet prayer. Everyone ended with a gentle, "Amen."
Inside a small church side room bathed in afternoon sunlight, Granny holds a large leather-bound Bible open on a wooden table while John Jr, standing on tiptoe, touches the embossed cover with curious eyes and a slight smile.
After church, Granny showed John Jr a big book. "This is the Bible," she said quietly. John Jr touched the cover with curiosity. "It has stories about Jesus and God's love," Granny explained. “Can you read me a story?” asked John Jr. “Of course,” Granny answered and opened the book.
In Granny's cozy living room lit by a late-afternoon lamp, Granny sits in a floral armchair reading the open Bible showing loaves while John Jr, on the rug hugging a brown teddy bear, gazes up in awe.
Granny read about Jesus sharing food with many people. "He fed five thousand!" she exclaimed. John Jr’s eyes grew wide. "That’s a lot!" he gasped. Granny said, "Sharing makes people happy." John Jr nodded, hugging his teddy closer.
At the bright kitchen table, afternoon sun streaming through windows, Granny sits beside John Jr as they color a church and smiling faces with crayons; their finished picture, secured by magnets, already hangs on the nearby refrigerator.
Back home, Granny gave John Jr some crayons. They drew a church, some bread, and happy faces. "This is our church family," Granny said. John Jr colored Jesus with a big smile. "Jesus is kind," he said, grinning. Granny hung their picture on the fridge.
Morning light fills a pastel-decorated living room; Granny kneels beside the sofa smiling as John Jr raises a brightly colored Easter egg he discovered behind a pillow, a wicker basket of other eggs and chocolates on the coffee table.
Granny explained, "Easter remembers when Jesus came back to life." John Jr loved the colorful eggs on the table. Granny hid one behind a pillow. "Found it!" John Jr shouted with joy. Granny hugged him, "Easter is a happy time." They shared some chocolate and laughed together.
At night in the twinkling living room, the lit Christmas tree glows as Granny steadies a branch while John Jr hangs a red ornament, both smiling; wrapped gifts and a nativity book lie nearby, fireplace casting warm light.
"At Christmas, we celebrate Jesus being born," Granny said. John Jr helped hang ornaments on the tree. He listened to Granny read about baby Jesus. They sang carols by the sparkling lights. "Merry Christmas, Granny!" John Jr cheered. Granny hugged him warmly, "Merry Christmas, my dear."
In the afternoon playroom, toys scattered across the colorful rug, John Jr hands a chocolate chip cookie to Granny, who kneels beside a toy bin smiling proudly; half-filled bin and tidy shelves show their cleaning progress.
Granny reminded John Jr, "We try to be kind like Jesus every day." John Jr helped pick up his toys. He shared his cookies with Granny. "You are being just like Jesus," Granny praised. John Jr beamed with pride. Together, they finished cleaning up and hugged.
Soft lamplight bathes John Jr's bedroom at night; Granny leans over the crib, gently kissing his forehead while holding the blanket, both faces peaceful, a tiny wooden cross and stuffed teddy resting on the nightstand.
At bedtime, Granny tucked John Jr in. They said a little prayer together. "Thank you, God, for love and kindness," Granny whispered. John Jr whispered, "Thank you for Granny." Granny kissed his forehead gently. The room felt warm and safe as they said, "Amen."
