Lily sat at the park with her mum, watching other families play. She saw her friend Chloe with her mum, but no dad. Her friend Max had two dads. Her neighbor Emma lived with her grandma. Lily looked at her own family and felt confused. 'Mum, why do all my friends have different families?' she asked. Her mum smiled warmly. 'That's a wonderful question, sweetie. Every family is special in its own way. Would you like to learn more about your friends' families?' Lily nodded eagerly. 'Yes, please!'

The next day, Lily visited Chloe's house. Chloe's Mum welcomed her with cookies and milk. 'May I ask you something?' Lily said politely. 'Of course, dear,' she replied with a kind smile. 'Why is it just you and Chloe?' Lily asked. Chloe's Mum sat down beside them. 'Well, Chloe's dad and I decided we're happier living separately. But we both love Chloe very much, and she sees him every week.' Chloe hugged her. 'I have lots of love from both my parents!' she said happily.

At school, Lily shared what she learned. Her teacher, Ms. Parker, gathered everyone for circle time. 'Families come in all shapes and sizes,' Ms. Parker explained. 'Some have one parent, some have two moms or two dads, some live with grandparents, and some have step-parents.' The children shared stories about their own families. Max talked about his two dads who made the best pancakes. Emma told everyone how her grandma taught her to garden. Lily listened carefully to each story. She realised that every family was different but equally special.

That evening, Lily hugged her mum tight. 'I learned something important today,' she said. 'What's that, sweetheart?' her mom asked. 'All families are different, but we all have the same thing—love!' Lily exclaimed. Her mum's eyes sparkled with pride. 'You're absolutely right. And it's wonderful that you asked respectful questions to learn about others.' Lily smiled. 'Chloe's Mum was really nice when I asked. She didn't mind at all!' From that day on, Lily celebrated the differences in her friends' families, knowing that love made every family special.
