Inside Emma's sunny bedroom laboratory, Emma peers through a bright plastic toy microscope on her desk while Ecoli, a smiling cartoonish green bacterium, floats beside the lens waving. Posters and crayons lie around under morning light.
"Hello! I'm Ecoli," said the tiny bacteria with a friendly smile. "I live in your tummy and help digest food. Not all germs are bad! I'm one of the good bacteria." Emma looked through her toy microscope. "Wow, you're so small!" Ecoli laughed. "Yes! Millions of us work together in your gut. We break down food so your body gets nutrients. We're your tiny helpers, keeping you healthy and strong every single day!"
In the brightly lit living-room afternoon, Emma recoils mid-sneeze beside a tissue box while Ecoli hovers at shoulder height. A cold virus shaped like a spiky blue ball with eyes drifts from her sneeze toward the lamp.
"But some germs aren't friendly," Ecoli warned. A cold virus floated by, making Emma sneeze. "Achoo! How did it get in?" she asked. "Germs spread through coughs, sneezes, and dirty hands," Ecoli explained. "They can make you feel sick with fever, coughs, or tummy aches." Emma frowned. "That's not fun!" Ecoli nodded. "Your body has an immune system that fights back. White blood cells are like tiny soldiers protecting you from invaders!"
Under bright bathroom lights, Emma stands on a stool at the white sink scrubbing her hands with foamy soap for twenty seconds while Ecoli cheers from the faucet handle. A colorful fruit bowl on the counter hints at healthy eating.
"How do I stop bad germs?" Emma wondered. Ecoli jumped excitedly. "Wash your hands with soap for twenty seconds! Germs wash away down the drain." Emma practiced at the sink, singing a song. "Also, cover your mouth when you cough, eat healthy foods, and get enough sleep," Ecoli added. "Your immune system grows stronger with good habits. Fruits and vegetables are like superhero fuel! Keep your body strong and germs stay away."
In Emma's dim bedroom evening glow, Emma rests beneath a patterned blanket, a steaming bowl of soup and water glass on the bedside table. Tiny Ecoli sits proudly on the pillow, giving a thumbs-up as the lamp casts warm light.
"What if I do get sick?" Emma asked. "Rest is the best medicine! Your body fights harder when you sleep," Ecoli said. "Drink water, eat soup, and stay warm. Sometimes doctors give medicine called antibiotics for bad bacteria, but not for viruses." Emma smiled. "And you'll still be there helping?" "Always!" Ecoli beamed. "Good germs like me protect you. We're teammates! Remember: wash hands, eat well, rest lots. You've got this, Emma!"
