In a sunlit playroom, Vamika kneels beside a low table, smiling warmly at John Jr. He claps while gripping a red toy and pointing at a colorful picture-book spread open between them.
Vamika smiled, "Are you excited to learn, John Jr?" John Jr giggled and nodded, gripping his toy tightly. "Today we'll discover Hinduism," Vamika explained softly. John Jr pointed to a colorful book full of pictures. "It starts with stories—lots of wonderful stories," Vamika added. John Jr clapped his hands in delight.
At a bright kitchen table, Vamika writes 'Sanatana Dharma' inside a large circle drawn on white paper. John Jr stands beside her, tracing the bold letters with one tiny finger, eyes wide with curiosity.
"Hinduism is also called Sanatana Dharma," said Vamika. She drew a big circle and wrote the words on a sheet. "It means the eternal way," she explained. John Jr traced the letters with his finger. "People have followed these ways for a very long time." Vamika nodded, "It's about living kindly and truthfully."
In a softly lit living room, Vamika balances a small toy scale on the carpet to demonstrate fairness. Sitting opposite, John Jr offers her his bright toy truck, smiling proudly at the even arms of the scale.
Vamika picked up a small scale toy. "Dharma means doing the right thing," she said. John Jr watched as she gently balanced the scale. "Helping others and being honest is part of dharma." John Jr handed her his toy truck, smiling. "That's very kind of you," Vamika praised.
On a sunny nursery floor, Vamika rolls a blue ball that gently taps John Jr’s knees. Laughing, he pushes the ball back toward her, both faces glowing with the lesson of karma.
"Every good deed brings good things," Vamika explained. She rolled a ball, and it bumped gently into John Jr. "That's karma—actions have results!" John Jr pushed the ball back, giggling. "See? You made a happy game by sharing!" said Vamika. Both laughed together.
In the shady backyard, Vamika draws a broad chalk circle on the patio stones. John Jr crawls happily around the ring under late-afternoon light, while she watches, smiling at the living example of samsara.
Vamika drew a big circle on the ground. "Samsara is the cycle of birth and rebirth," she told John Jr. He crawled around the circle, laughing. "Round and round, just like life!" Vamika smiled. "But we try to be better each time we learn."
By the open doorway at morning, Vamika points toward the sunlit garden beyond. John Jr crawls past her into the warm light, grinning at his first tiny taste of moksha.
"Moksha means freedom from the circle," Vamika said softly. She opened a door and pointed outside. "Like stepping out into the sunshine," she smiled. John Jr crawled through, laughing. "It’s the goal—to find happiness and peace." Vamika watched him with a gentle smile.
Inside a colorful study, Vamika fans picture cards of Vishnu, Shiva, and Shakti before a bright window. Seated on a cushion, John Jr eagerly points to the blue-skinned Vishnu card, cheeks dimpled with delight.
Vamika showed picture cards—Vishnu, Shiva, and Shakti. "These are some of the many deities," she said. John Jr pointed to the blue-skinned Vishnu. "Deities teach us kindness and bravery," Vamika explained. "There are adventure stories and lessons." John Jr clapped for the pictures.
In a dimly lit corner shrine, Vamika sets a small candle flickering beside a brass tray. Kneeling, John Jr carefully places a single marigold near the flame, eyes reflecting the warm puja glow.
Vamika lit a small candle. "Puja is a way to show respect," she whispered. John Jr watched the gentle flame. "We offer flowers and food too," Vamika added. She let John Jr place a flower near the candle. "Thank you for joining in," she smiled.
Morning light streams across the living-room rug as Vamika sits cross-legged, palms up, breathing steadily. John Jr mirrors her pose with closed eyes and a tiny smile, both framed by calm stillness of yoga.
"Yoga helps us feel calm," said Vamika. She sat with legs crossed, breathing deeply. John Jr copied her and closed his eyes. "Breathe in, then out," Vamika guided gently. They listened to the quiet together. "It helps minds and hearts grow strong," she added.
At the study desk under evening lamp-light, Vamika spreads vivid photographs of Indian and Nepali temples. Standing on a chair, John Jr taps a towering gopuram image, excitement dancing across his face.
Vamika showed pictures of temples in India and Nepal. "People practice Hinduism in many countries," she told John Jr. He pointed at the tall, colorful buildings. "Yes, and they celebrate with music and dance!" Vamika laughed. "It’s a joyful, sharing faith." John Jr giggled excitedly.
Outdoors at midday, Vamika tosses a cloud of pink powder that sparkles in the sunlight. John Jr reaches upward, tiny hands coated in color as they spin joyfully amid the floating Holi mist.
Vamika sprinkled colored powder in the air. "Festivals like Holi are full of color," she explained. John Jr reached out and watched the powder fall. "Lights, songs, and sweets make everyone happy," Vamika said. Together they pretended to dance. "Hinduism is about celebrating life," she finished.
In the softly lit nursery night, Vamika kneels by John Jr’s crib, smiling tenderly. He hugs his illustrated storybook to his chest and waves goodnight, moonlight filtering through the curtains.
"What did you like most?" Vamika asked warmly. John Jr hugged his storybook tight. "Tomorrow we’ll learn more together," Vamika promised. She smiled as John Jr waved. "Goodnight, little explorer." The day ended with happy hearts.
