In a sunny residential street, he spots a sewer hole with a giant heavy wooden lid covering the hole. A tree is next to the sewer hole and be a metal pole lays in the grass close by.
I hear someone crying. What is that sound? I follow the sound down the street. The crying comes from under a heavy lid! I try to lift the lid, but it is too heavy. I find a metal bar near a fence. I push the bar under the lid and push down hard. The lid lifts up! I look inside and see a puppy down a deep dark hole. Poor puppy! I cannot reach her.
Under the same street, an open sewer hole, tree at midday, Billy leans over the dark deep black hole and can’t see a thing except a tiny tiny part of a dog
The puppy looks up at me with sad eyes. I need to get her out! I find a rope in my backpack. I tie one end to a bucket. I throw the rope over a tree branch above the hole. The puppy climbs into the bucket. I pull the rope down. The bucket goes up! The puppy comes up and up. She is free at last! But wait. Her back leg is hurt. She cannot walk at all.
On a bright afternoon sidewalk, Billy pushes a red wagon briskly toward his house, wind ruffling his hair. Nestled on a blanket inside, Mochi lies with bandaged hind leg, white tail spilling over the wagon’s edge.
I find my red wagon near the sidewalk. I lift the puppy gently into the wagon,. I push the wagon down the street toward my house. The wheels roll smoothly on the ground. We go faster and faster! Soon we reach my house. But there are too many stairs to the door. How will I get her up?
Right before sunrise, Billy and Mochi arrive in front of the same house at the same front porch with the same steps. Mochi is sitting inside the same red wagon and Billy looks at the stairs with a worried look.
I find two long wooden boards in the garage. I lean them against the stairs to make a ramp. Now I can push the wagon up! I push and push. The wagon rolls up the ramp slowly. We are finally safe and home!
