Ksyusha's sunlit bedroom: morning light pours onto a small bed where Ksyusha sits upright, eyes wide, staring at a massive gray, fluffy 'mountain' breathing gently at the foot of her bed. She tilts her head, mouth slightly open in surprise.
Ksyusha opened her eyes one sunny morning. She rubbed her sleepy face and looked around her room. What was that? Right in front of her bed sat a huge fluffy mountain! It was gray and soft-looking. Ksyusha sat very still and watched the mysterious mountain. She tilted her head. The mountain seemed to be breathing! Up and down, up and down it went. "Mountains don't breathe," whispered Ksyusha to herself. She was curious and a little bit excited.
Inside the same bright bedroom, the gray fluff rises into an enormous cat, standing beside the bed with pointed ears and a swishing tail catching sunlight. Ksyusha kneels on the mattress, hands on cheeks, eyes sparkling in astonishment.
Suddenly, the mountain began to move! It stretched up high, then collapsed into a new shape. Two pointy ears appeared on top. A long tail swished behind. "It's a cat!" gasped Ksyusha. But this wasn't just any cat. This was the biggest, fluffiest cat she had ever seen! The cat had beautiful gray fur that looked like soft clouds. Its green eyes sparkled like jewels. The cat looked at Ksyusha and purred loudly. It sounded like a happy motor.
Morning light filters through the bedroom as the gigantic gray cat presses its head against Ksyusha's outstretched hand beside the rumpled bed. She laughs, hugging its fluffy neck, eyes closed joyfully while the cat lies content, eyes half-shut and purring.
The big cat walked over to Ksyusha's bed. It rubbed its enormous head against her hand. Ksyusha giggled as the soft fur tickled her fingers. "Hello there, big kitty," she said sweetly. The cat purred even louder and lay down right next to her. Ksyusha felt so warm and cozy beside her new friend. She hugged the cat's fluffy neck. The cat closed its eyes happily. "I think you like me," said Ksyusha with a big smile.
Nighttime in the dim bedroom: moonlight streams through curtains onto Ksyusha sleeping peacefully on the bed while the huge gray cat curls beside her. Its fluffy tail drapes over Ksyusha like a blanket, both faces serene in the quiet glow.
Every day after that, Ksyusha and the big cat were together. They played tag around the house, with the cat being very gentle. Sometimes the cat would hide behind doors, then jump out to surprise her! Ksyusha would laugh and laugh. At night, they slept side by side, keeping each other warm. The big cat would wrap its fluffy tail around Ksyusha like a blanket. "You're my best friend," Ksyusha whispered. The cat purred softly, as if saying, "You're mine too."
