Milo the monkey straightens his red bandana, excited for the big banana race at school. His friend Simon waves, wearing his ball cap. "Ready to race, Milo?" Simon asks. "I’m going to win this time!" Milo shouts back with a grin. The other monkeys giggle and chatter as Miss Coco gathers everyone together. The race is about to begin, and everyone is buzzing with excitement.

Miss Coco calls, "Monkeys, line up!" Milo and Simon rush to the starting line. Simon smiles, "Good luck, Milo!" Milo frowns, thinking only of winning. "You’re going down, Simon," Milo whispers. The whistle blows, and the race begins!

Simon dashes off quickly, pulling ahead of Milo. Milo pumps his arms and runs as fast as he can. He sees Simon getting closer to the finish line. "No fair!" Milo yells, thinking Simon has found a shortcut. Simon looks back, confused. The crowd cheers loudly for everyone.

Simon crosses the finish line first, waving happily. Milo stomps his feet and shouts, "Simon cheated!" Other monkeys stop cheering and look at Milo. Miss Coco steps over and says, "Milo, what happened?" Milo huffs, "He must’ve cheated—it’s not possible!" Simon looks sad and quiet.

Miss Coco kneels down and says, "Milo, sometimes we don’t win, but that’s okay." Milo crosses his arms and looks away. "But I wanted to win so much!" Milo says. Simon quietly says, "I played fair, Milo." Miss Coco says, "Being a good sport is more important than winning." Milo thinks for a moment, feeling confused.

After school, Milo walks home with his mom. "How was the race?" Milo’s Mom asks, adjusting her glasses. Milo grumbles, "Simon won again. I said he cheated." Milo’s Mom hugs him and says, "Winning isn’t everything, sweetheart." Milo sighs, staring at his red bandana.

"I know you want to win," Milo’s Mom says gently. "But everyone likes playing games with friends." Milo looks up and asks, "Even if I lose?" She nods, "Especially if you’re kind when you lose." Milo thinks, "Maybe I should say sorry to Simon." His mom smiles warmly.

The next day, Milo nervously approaches Simon on the playground. Simon picks up a soccer ball and glances at Milo. "Simon, I’m sorry I said you cheated," Milo says quietly. Simon grins, "It’s okay, Milo! Let’s play together." Milo feels his anger slipping away. They kick the ball and laugh.

Miss Coco calls for another banana race. Milo and Simon line up together, ready to have fun. "Want to race for fun, Simon?" Milo asks, smiling. Simon nods eagerly. The monkeys shout, "Three, two, one—go!" They run together, both smiling wide.

This time, Milo and Simon run side by side. They cheer each other on as they race. At the finish line, Simon wins by just a little. Milo laughs, "Good race, Simon!" Simon high-fives him. The crowd claps for both monkeys’ good sportsmanship.

Other monkeys come over to play with Milo and Simon. "You guys are fun!" one monkey says. Milo smiles, feeling proud. "Let’s all race together!" Milo suggests. They all laugh and line up again. Milo feels happy being a good sport.

At home, Milo tells his mom how much fun he had. "I didn’t get mad, and I made new friends!" Milo says. His mom hugs him and says, "I’m so proud of you." Milo grins, touching his red bandana. "Being a friend is better than winning," he says. Milo can’t wait for tomorrow’s race.
