Eliana looked up at Mommy with big, hopeful eyes. "May I play in the woods today?" she asked sweetly. Mommy smiled and knelt down. "Yes, but stay where I can see you," Mommy said, giving her a gentle hug. Eliana clapped her hands with joy. "Thank you, Mommy!" She put on her favorite shoes and skipped toward the trees, excited for her adventure.

Eliana walked carefully between the tall trees. Sunlight danced through the leaves above her head. She listened to the birds singing their cheerful songs. "What a beautiful day!" Eliana said to herself. She picked up a smooth stone and put it in her pocket. The woods felt magical and full of wonder. Everything seemed perfect for exploring and playing games.

Eliana walked around a big oak tree and suddenly bumped into something soft. "Oh!" she gasped, stepping back quickly. Before her stood a shadowy, round creature with big yellow eyes. He wore a colorful scarf around his neck. Eliana's heart beat fast. "A monster!" she whispered. The creature looked just as surprised as she felt. They stared at each other quietly.

Eliana wanted to run back to Mommy right away. Her legs felt wobbly and her hands trembled. The monster's big yellow eyes blinked slowly. But he didn't roar or chase her. Instead, he took a small step backward. "Maybe he's scared too," Eliana thought. She stood very still, watching him carefully. The monster looked down at his feet shyly.

The monster reached into a small basket beside him. He pulled out a warm bowl that smelled wonderful. "For you?" he asked in a soft, gentle voice. Eliana's eyes grew wide. The monster was offering to share his lunch with her! Steam rose from the bowl of Japanese curry. It looked delicious. "He wants to be friends," Eliana realized, feeling less scared now.

Eliana took a tiny step forward. "My name is Eliana," she said quietly. The monster smiled warmly. "I'm Peter," he replied, adjusting his colorful scarf. "I just moved here. I don't have any friends yet." Eliana felt her fear melting away. Peter looked lonely and kind. "Would you like to share lunch with me?" Peter asked hopefully. Eliana nodded and smiled back.

Eliana sat down on a soft patch of moss next to Peter. He handed her a spoon and they shared the warm curry. "This is so yummy!" Eliana said happily. Peter's yellow eyes sparkled with joy. "My grandmother taught me to make it," he explained proudly. They ate together, enjoying every bite. The curry warmed Eliana from the inside out. Sharing made everything taste even better.

After finishing their lunch, Eliana jumped up excitedly. "Do you want to play hide and seek?" she asked. Peter nodded enthusiastically, making his scarf bounce. "I'll count first!" he offered. Peter covered his big yellow eyes and began counting slowly. Eliana giggled and ran to hide behind a wide tree trunk. "Ready or not, here I come!" Peter called out cheerfully.

Peter found Eliana quickly behind the tree. "Found you!" he laughed. Now it was Eliana's turn to seek. She counted carefully while Peter hid. His shadowy body was hard to spot in the shady woods! But Eliana noticed his colorful scarf peeking out from behind a bush. "I see you, Peter!" she called happily. They both laughed together, having so much fun.

Eliana and Peter played many games that afternoon. They collected pretty leaves and made a colorful pile. They hopped like bunnies across the forest floor. They sang silly songs that made them giggle. Peter taught Eliana a clapping game from his old home. "This is the best day ever!" Eliana declared. Peter agreed, his yellow eyes twinkling with happiness. Time flew by so quickly.

The sun began to set, painting the sky orange and pink. "Eliana!" Mommy called from the house. "Time to come home!" Eliana felt sad that playtime was ending. "Will you come back tomorrow?" Peter asked hopefully. "Yes! Every day!" Eliana promised. She gave Peter a big hug. Peter's scarf felt soft and cozy. "Thank you for being my friend," Peter said sweetly.

Eliana skipped back to Mommy with a huge smile. "I made a new friend today!" she announced proudly. Mommy hugged her tight. "That's wonderful, sweetie," Mommy said. Eliana thought about Peter and his kind yellow eyes. He had seemed scary at first, but he was really wonderful. "Sometimes the best friends look a little different," Eliana said wisely. And she couldn't wait to play again tomorrow.
