On the house doorway steps in morning sunlight, Mom tightens the straps of a clear bubble backpack while smiling at Otto inside. The cat presses white paws against the dome, gray ears perked and tail swishing.
Mom zipped up her jacket and smiled. "Ready, Otto?" she asked. Otto meowed from inside his special bubble backpack. He could see everything through the clear dome! His gray ears perked up with excitement. Mom adjusted the straps and headed out the door. "We're going to see all of Philadelphia today," she said. Otto pressed his white paws against the bubble. The city waited outside. His gray tail swished back and forth. This was going to be the best day ever!
Inside the Liberty Bell hall under bright museum lights, Mom stands beside the massive cracked bell holding the bubble backpack at chest height. Otto's gray nose touches the dome as a little girl nearby points in delight.
Mom walked down the busy sidewalk. Otto watched people pass by from his cozy bubble. "Look, Otto! The Liberty Bell!" Mom said. They entered the building. Otto's gray nose pressed against the bubble as he stared at the giant bell. A little girl pointed at him. "Mommy, a kitty in a spaceship!" she giggled. Otto meowed proudly. Mom read the sign out loud. "This bell is very old and special," she explained. Otto purred. History was interesting, especially from a bubble backpack!
Inside Reading Terminal Market's pretzel stand under warm yellow bulbs, Mom receives a soft pretzel from a vendor behind a wooden counter. Otto watches with wide green eyes through the bubble, delicately licking a tiny salty piece.
The Reading Terminal Market smelled amazing! Otto's nose twitched at all the food scents. Mom stopped at a pretzel stand. "One soft pretzel, please," she ordered. The vendor laughed when he saw Otto. "Your cat is adorable!" he said, handing Mom a warm pretzel. Mom broke off a tiny piece. "Just a little taste," she whispered to Otto. He licked it carefully. Salty and warm! They walked past fruit stands and flower shops. Otto watched everything with wide green eyes. The market was full of wonderful sights!
On a park bench near City Hall at sunset, soft orange light bathes Mom cradling the bubble backpack on her lap. Otto yawns, pink tongue showing, while city lights spark to life behind them in the dusky sky.
The sun began to set over Philadelphia. Mom sat on a bench near City Hall. "Tired, Otto?" she asked softly. Otto yawned, showing his tiny pink tongue. His gray tail curled around him inside the bubble. The city lights started twinkling. Mom stood up slowly. "Let's go home, my brave explorer," she said gently. Otto closed his eyes as Mom walked. The bubble backpack rocked like a cradle. He had seen the whole city today. What an adventure! Tomorrow, he would dream about it all.
