Inside the sunlit living room of the new house, cardboard boxes surround Mum who kneels beside Raven near a window. Raven, blonde hair in pigtails, smiles proudly while Mum wraps an arm around her, both gazing at their new space.
I am Raven. I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I am five years old. I am moving to a new house with my mum. Mum loves me very much. I love mum very much. Our love is always there. Moving to a new house can feel different at first. That is okay. I am brave. Mum is proud of me.
Evening lamplight bathes Raven’s new bedroom with soft pastel walls, a cozy bed overflowing with colorful pillows. Raven sits cross-legged atop the blankets, grinning toward Mum standing in the doorway, their rooms separated only by the short hallway behind her.
In our new house, I have my own bedroom. My room has soft walls and a cozy bed. I have lots of pillows, just like I love. Mum's room is right next door. She is very close by. I can hear her if I need her. Mum still loves me very much. Love stretches across rooms. Even when mum is not in the same bed, her love is with me.
Nightlight glow paints the dim bedroom; stars projected on the ceiling. Raven lies under her favorite blanket clutching the soft hug pillow, while Mum seated beside the bed leans close, softly saying, “Sweet dreams, my Raven. I love you always.”
I have special things to help me sleep. I have a hug pillow that feels soft and warm. I have a gentle night light that glows. I have my favorite blanket. Mum and I say our special words: 'Sweet dreams, my Raven. I love you always.' Mum will come back to check on me. I can take slow butterfly breaths. I breathe in. I breathe out.
Under faint night-light in the bedroom, Mum finishes tucking the blanket, kissing Raven’s forehead before stepping toward the door. Raven, eyes closed and hugging her pillow, takes a slow butterfly breath, looking serene and brave in the gentle darkness.
I am learning to sleep in my own room. My body can learn new ways. This is part of growing. I follow my bedtime routine. Mum tucks me in. She gives me a kiss. She says our special words. I hold my hug pillow tight. I take my butterfly breaths. I am brave. I am growing. Mum is proud of me. Sweet dreams.
