Indoors in Jenny's bedroom on a gray rainy afternoon, Jenny stands beside the window with raindrops streaking the glass, clutching Teddy against her chest. Her red hair bounces as she smiles, rain-damp light reflecting on the bear's stitched smile.
Page 1 – Best Friends Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Jenny. Jenny had a little teddy bear named Teddy, and she loved him very, very much. Teddy went everywhere with Jenny. They played together, went on little adventures together, and were the best of friends.
Inside the playroom, midday lamplight glows over a blanket-and-pillow fort shaped like a tiny castle. Jenny, wearing a paper crown, kneels at the entrance while Teddy, propped upright with a toy wooden sword, guards the doorway from imaginary dragons.
Jenny and Teddy built a fort with blankets and pillows. It was their secret castle. Jenny pretended to be a princess and Teddy was her brave knight. They had to protect the castle from dragons. Jenny roared like a dragon and Teddy pretended to fight it away. They laughed and played for hours. The rain outside did not matter anymore. Their fort was the best place in the whole world.
Afternoon sunlight filters through the playroom window onto a kid-sized table set with colorful plastic teacups and cookies. Jenny sits on one side pouring invisible tea from a pink pot, while Teddy occupies the special chair opposite, forever attentive.
Jenny felt hungry after all that playing. She had a great idea for a tea party. She set up her little table with plastic cups and plates. Teddy sat in the special chair across from her. Jenny poured pretend tea for both of them. She offered Teddy a plastic cookie. They talked about their adventure in the castle. Jenny told Teddy he was very brave today. Teddy seemed to smile back at her.
By the bedroom window in late-afternoon sunlight, a vivid rainbow arcs across the clearing sky outside. Jenny lifts Teddy to the glass, cheek pressed to his fuzzy head, both facing the shimmering colors with matching wide smiles.
The sun came out and made a rainbow in the sky. Jenny carried Teddy to the window to see it. She hugged her brown bear close. Jenny knew that Teddy would always be her best friend. Rain or shine, they would have adventures together. She kissed Teddy on his fuzzy head. Tomorrow they would play outside, but today was perfect too. Jenny smiled and Teddy smiled back in his own special way.
