One sunny morning, Fox and Cat woke up early. They stretched and yawned. "Let's go swimming in the river!" said Fox. Cat purred happily. "What a wonderful idea!" They walked through the forest together. The birds were singing. The sun felt warm. Soon they reached the sparkling river. They were so excited to jump in and splash around!

Fox and Cat stood at the edge of the river. They were about to jump in. Suddenly, they saw something moving in the water! It was getting closer and closer. "Look!" cried Cat. A big alligator was swimming toward them! It was Arch the Alligator! His teeth looked very sharp. Fox and Cat jumped back from the water. "Oh my!" they both said.

"We need to get away!" said Fox. Cat pointed across the river. "Look! There's a boat over there!" Fox nodded quickly. They both jumped into the water. They swam as fast as they could. Splash, splash, splash went their paws! Soon they reached the boat. They climbed inside, dripping wet. "We're safe now!" said Cat, catching her breath. They looked back at the river.

Fox and Cat rested in the boat. Then they heard a sound. "Meow! Meow!" It came from deep in the forest. "That sounds like a kitten!" said Cat. They listened carefully. "Meow! Meow!" there it was again! "Someone needs help!" said Fox. They quickly rowed the boat to shore. They had to find out who was crying. Fox and Cat were very brave.

Fox and Cat ran into the forest. They followed the crying sounds. "Meow! Meow!" Behind a big tree, they found a tiny kitten! It was Baby Cat. He looked scared and lost. "Don't worry, little one," said Cat gently. Fox smiled warmly. "We'll help you." They picked up Baby Cat carefully. He was so small and soft. "Let's take him in our boat," said Fox. Baby Cat purred quietly.

They carried Baby Cat back to the boat. A big cat came running from the trees! It was Mother Cat, Baby Cat's mama. "There you are!" she cried with joy. But then Mother Cat stopped. Her eyes grew wide. She saw Arch the Alligator following their boat in the water! "An alligator!" she gasped. Mother Cat's fur stood up. She was so worried about her baby!

Mother Cat was very scared. But she loved her baby so much! She had to save him from the alligator. Without thinking twice, Mother Cat jumped into the river! Splash! The water was cold and deep. "Mama!" cried Baby Cat from the boat. He saw his mother swimming. Baby Cat wanted to be with his mama. Fox and Cat watched nervously. Everything was happening so fast!

Baby Cat saw his mother in the water. "Mama, wait for me!" he meowed. Before anyone could stop him, Baby Cat jumped! Splash! He went right into the river. But Baby Cat was too little! He didn't know how to swim yet! Baby Cat's head went under the water. He came back up, splashing and struggling. "Help!" cried Fox. "Baby Cat is drowning!" Everyone was so frightened!

Mother Cat tried to swim to her baby. But the water was too rough! She couldn't reach him in time. Cat began to cry. "Oh no, poor Baby Cat!" Fox had tears in his eyes too. They felt so helpless! Mother Cat cried the loudest. "My baby!" she wailed. The water splashed all around Baby Cat. He was sinking deeper and deeper. Would anyone be able to save him?

Suddenly, something amazing happened! Arch the Alligator swam very fast toward Baby Cat. He gently scooped Baby Cat onto his back! Arch swam smoothly to the shore. Baby Cat held on tight. Arch placed Baby Cat safely on the soft grass. Baby Cat coughed and breathed again! Everyone stared with their mouths open. They couldn't believe what they just saw! Arch the Alligator had saved Baby Cat's life!

Mother Cat ran to Baby Cat and hugged him tight. Fox and Cat came over too. They all looked at Arch with surprise. "Why did you follow us?" asked Fox. Arch smiled a big, friendly smile. "I just wanted to play with you!" he said happily. Everyone gasped. "You wanted to play?" asked Cat. "Yes! I'm not mean," said Arch. "I just look scary sometimes." They all felt silly now.

Everyone started to laugh! They had been scared for nothing! "I'm sorry we ran away," said Fox. Arch grinned. "That's okay! I understand." Mother Cat smiled at Arch. "Thank you for saving my baby!" Baby Cat purred and rubbed against Arch's leg. They all played together in the river. They splashed and swam and laughed. From that day on, they were all best friends. Arch was Mr. Nice Alligator!
