Zoe, Gus, Pax, and Eden arrived at their grandparents' lakeside cottage. The sun sparkled on the blue water. "Welcome, my dears!" called Grandma from the porch. Grandpa waved from his rocking chair. "Ready for adventure?" he asked with a wink. The four siblings looked at each other and grinned. This summer would be special. Eden grabbed her bucket. "Let's explore!" she shouted. They raced toward the shore together, their laughter filling the warm air.

The next morning, the children explored the shoreline. Pax pointed behind thick bushes. "Look! Something's back there!" They pushed through branches carefully. Hidden among the reeds was an old raft with four paddles. "It's perfect for us!" said Zoe excitedly. Gus tested it with his foot. "Feels sturdy," he reported. Eden clapped her hands. "Can we use it?" They ran to ask Grandpa. He inspected the raft and nodded. "With life jackets and preparation, yes," he said thoughtfully.

Grandma helped them gather supplies. Zoe packed a first aid kit, scissors, and rope. Gus found a net in the shed. Pax filled a bag with crackers and water. Eden carried four bright orange life jackets. "Safety first," reminded Grandpa, helping them buckle up. They worked together to carry the raft to the water's edge. "Teamwork makes it easier," observed Zoe. Finally, everything was ready. Their hearts pounded with excitement as they prepared to launch their raft adventure.

"Push on three!" called Gus. "One, two, three!" The raft slid into the calm water. The children climbed aboard carefully. Zoe sat at the front. Gus and Pax took the sides. Eden settled at the back. They each grabbed a paddle. "Paddle together," instructed Zoe. The raft glided smoothly across the lake. The water rippled around them. "This is amazing!" shouted Eden. Dragonflies zipped past. Birds sang from the trees. Their adventure had truly begun.

"Oops!" cried Pax. His paddle slipped from his hands into the water. It began floating away. "Don't worry," said Zoe calmly. Gus stretched out with his paddle. "I can reach it." He carefully hooked the lost paddle and pulled it back. "Got it!" he announced proudly. Pax's face turned red. "I'm sorry," he mumbled. Eden patted his shoulder. "It's okay. We helped you." Pax smiled gratefully. They continued paddling, stronger as a team than before.

Eden squinted ahead. "What's that red thing?" she asked, pointing. A bright red spot bobbed on the water. "Let's check it out," suggested Gus. They paddled closer carefully. As they approached, the red thing moved. "It's alive!" gasped Pax. Soon they could see clearly. A duck was swimming with something red around its neck. "That's not right," said Zoe with concern. The duck quacked weakly. "It looks stuck," observed Gus. They knew they had to help.

They paddled even closer. Now they could see the problem clearly. A plastic cup was stuck around the duck's neck! "The poor thing," whispered Eden sadly. The duck tried to dive but couldn't. The cup kept pulling it back up. "We need to help," declared Zoe. Gus grabbed his net. "But how do we catch it?" wondered Pax. Zoe thought carefully. "We need a plan," she said. Everyone listened closely as Zoe explained her idea.

"Pax, use your crackers to lure the duck closer," instructed Zoe. "Eden, help guide it toward Gus. Gus, be ready with the net. I'll keep us steady." Pax crumbled crackers onto the water. The hungry duck paddled toward them. "Here it comes," whispered Eden encouragingly. Gus held the net ready. The raft wobbled. "Stay balanced," warned Zoe. Gus reached out but the duck darted away. "Almost!" he said. "Let's try again," urged Pax. They wouldn't give up.

They tried again. The duck came closer. Gus stretched further with the net. Suddenly the raft tipped! "Whoa!" shouted Gus. Splash! He tumbled into the lake. His life jacket kept him floating safely. "Gus!" cried Eden. "I'm okay!" he called back, spitting out water. Zoe quickly steadied the raft. "Stay calm, everyone," she directed. Gus still held the net. "I can help from here!" he said bravely. Pax scattered more crackers. The duck approached again, curious and hungry.

The duck swam between Gus and the raft. "Now!" shouted Zoe. Gus swept the net gently. He caught the duck! "Got it!" he cheered. Pax and Eden carefully pulled the net aboard. The duck flapped but didn't bite. "Hold it steady," said Zoe. She grabbed her scissors. Snip! The plastic cup fell away. The duck shook its feathers happily. "You're free!" laughed Eden. They released it gently. The duck quacked loudly and swam away fast, diving perfectly now.

"Help Gus back in," directed Zoe. Together they pulled him aboard. Water dripped everywhere. "That was scary," admitted Pax. "But we did it!" said Eden proudly. Gus squeezed water from his shirt. "That duck needed us." They began paddling back to shore. The sun felt warm on their faces. Their arms were tired but their hearts were full. "We make a good team," observed Zoe. Everyone agreed. They had done something important together today.

Grandpa and Grandma waited on the shore. "We saw everything through the binoculars!" said Grandma, hugging them. Grandpa beamed with pride. "You worked together beautifully. You helped a creature in need." He thought for a moment. "From now on, you're The Lakeshore Four," he declared. The children stood taller. "The Lakeshore Four," repeated Zoe happily. They looked at each other and smiled. This was just the beginning of their adventures together at the lake.
