Another girl, Fatima, showed Zahra her sash. 'We earn badges here,' she explained. Leader Aminath wore a navy-blue tunic and bright yellow neckerchief. 'Welcome, Zahra!' she said warmly. Zahra smiled. She already felt like she belonged.

Leader Aminath gathered everyone in a circle. 'Our uniforms are special,' she began. 'Stars wear lime-green. Little Maids wear light-blue polos with dark blue sashes.' She pointed to Maya's group nearby. 'Guides wear white tunics or light-blue polos with dark green sashes.' Zahra listened carefully. 'And leaders wear olive-green dresses or navy-blue,' Aminath continued. 'Each uniform shows which group we belong to.' Zahra felt proud of her lime-green colors.

'Why do we wear uniforms?' Aisha asked. Leader Aminath smiled. 'They help us feel like a team. When you see another girl in uniform, you know she's a friend.' Fatima raised her hand. 'My cousin lives on another island. She's a Star too!' 'Exactly!' said Aminath. 'Girls all across the Maldives wear these uniforms. We're all connected.' Zahra thought that was wonderful. She touched her lime-green sash proudly.

Zahra's eyes sparkled. She wanted to earn every single one!

'Badges must go in the right place,' Leader Aminath said. She held up a ruler. 'We measure four inches from your shoulder seam.' She showed them on Fatima's sash. Zahra watched closely. 'Why does it matter?' Aisha asked. 'So all uniforms look neat and the same,' Aminath explained. 'It shows we care about doing things properly.' Zahra understood. Everything had a special place and purpose. That made it even more special.

Next came the WAGGGS badge. 'This connects us to girls worldwide!' Finally, she showed achievement badges. 'These show what you've accomplished.' Zahra imagined her sash covered in badges. 'I'll work really hard,' she promised. Aminath patted her shoulder. 'I know you will.'

A new girl named Mariyam arrived wearing long sleeves and a white hijab with her Star uniform. 'You look beautiful!' Zahra said. Mariyam smiled. 'Thank you! I like long sleeves.' Leader Aminath explained, 'Everyone can choose what's comfortable. Long sleeves, long trousers, or hijabs in white, black, or olive.' Fatima nodded. 'My sister wears a hijab with her Guide uniform.' 'We all belong here,' Aminath said warmly. 'However you wear your uniform.'
In the hall, Aisha squeezes Zahra's hand reassuringly while Leader Aminath announces the badge ceremony, and Zahra's face lights up with joy.
'Next week is our badge ceremony,' Leader Aminath announced. 'Some of you will receive your first achievement badges!' Zahra felt nervous. 'But I just started!' Aisha squeezed her hand. 'We all start somewhere.' Leader Aminath smiled. 'Zahra, you'll receive your Maldives flag badge and WAGGGS badge. Everyone gets those when they join.' Zahra's heart soared. Her very first badges! She could hardly wait for next week's special day.

Soon she'd officially be a Star with badges to prove it.
