Maya sat alone at recess, watching other kids play. Her tummy felt all fluttery. "What if I can't?" she whispered, thinking about joining them. The swing set looked so high. The jump rope spun so fast. Making new friends seemed scary. Then something magical happened inside her heart. A tiny voice asked something different: "What if I CAN?" Maya took a deep breath. She stood up slowly. Her legs felt wobbly but brave. Maybe, just maybe, she could try.

Maya walked toward the jump rope. Her hands felt sweaty. "Hi, I'm Maya," she said softly. Two girls smiled at her. "Want to turn the rope with us?" they asked. Maya's heart thumped. "What if I can't?" popped into her head. But she remembered her new question. "What if I CAN?" she said out loud! The girls giggled happily. Maya grabbed the rope. She turned it slowly at first, then faster. She was doing it! Her smile grew bigger and bigger.

The next day, Maya tried the monkey bars. She swung across one, two, three bars! Then she slipped and fell down. Her knee got scraped. Tears filled her eyes. The other kids stared at her. Maya felt her cheeks turn hot. "What if I can't do anything right?" she thought sadly. Then she heard her friend say, "Are you okay, Maya?" Helping hands reached down. Maya remembered her special words. "What if I CAN try again?" She stood up, brushed off, and smiled.

Maya became braver every day. When her friend Sam felt scared to share his drawing, Maya knew what to say. "What if you CAN?" she whispered. Sam smiled and showed his picture. Everyone clapped! Soon, all the kids started saying it. "What if I can?" they'd ask together. The playground filled with trying and laughing. Maya realized something wonderful. Her special words were like a superpower! And the best part? She could share it with everyone. Now Maya knew: believing in herself helped others believe too.
