Mrs. Nicole holds a colorful book while Mr. Pablo stands on a chair with outstretched arms in the camp classroom. Children look on excitedly.
Mr. Pablo jumped onto a chair and spread his arms wide. "Attention, future Mini Master Chefs! This week we are cooking the biggest feast ever!" Mrs. Nicole held up a colorful book. "But first, where does our food come from?" Mr. Goncalo rubbed his belly. "From the kitchen?" Everyone giggled. "Not quite," Mrs. Nicole smiled. "It starts at the farm with farmers, tractors, and tiny seeds." Mrs. Sara grabbed her adventure hat. "Let's go see a real farm!" The children cheered and lined up at the door.
Children and Mr. Goncalo press seeds into dark soil at a farm while a kind farmer watches, rows of green plants in the background.
The camp walked to a little farm nearby. Rows of green plants pushed up through dark, crumbly soil. A kind farmer waved hello. "Welcome! Want to touch the soil?" The children dug their fingers into the cool earth. "It feels soft and squishy!" one child said. The farmer handed out tiny seeds. "Plant these gently," she said. Everyone carefully pressed seeds into the ground. "Now they'll grow into food," Mrs. Nicole explained. Mr. Goncalo stared at his muddy hands and grinned. "I'm a real farmer now!"
Mr. Goncalo sits in a big red tractor, gripping the wheel and laughing, as children laugh and Mrs. Sara pretends to honk a horn.
Mr. Goncalo spotted a big red tractor. "Can I try?" he asked excitedly. The farmer laughed. "It's not running today, but you can sit in it." Mr. Goncalo climbed up and grabbed the wheel. "CHUGGA-CHUGGA-VROOM! VROOM!" he shouted, bouncing in the seat. The children laughed so hard they fell over. Mrs. Sara pretended to honk a horn. "BEEP BEEP!" Even Mrs. Nicole was giggling. "Agriculture is serious work," she said between laughs, "but it's also the most important job in the world!"
Mr. Goncalo raises both hands high with excitement while Mr. Pablo gives him a high-five, children cheering around them on the path back to camp.
On the walk back, Mr. Pablo asked, "Who can tell me the journey of a carrot?" Hands shot up everywhere. Mr. Goncalo raised both hands high. "I know! I know!" Mr. Pablo pointed to him. "Seed in soil… plant grows… tractor helps… harvest… market… and then into my mouth!" Mr. Goncalo announced proudly. Everyone cheered and clapped. Mr. Pablo gave him a high-five. "Exactly right!" Mrs. Nicole smiled. "Tomorrow we learn how to build a perfectly balanced plate." The children skipped back to camp, excited for the next adventure.
