A hill rose up, so steep and tall, Kate's steps grew slow, she feared she'd fall. 'I can't!' she cried, 'It's much too high!' Jane stayed close, wouldn't say goodbye. 'One step at a time, that's all we need, Together, Kate, we'll gain some speed.' She held Kate's hand and pulled her near, Climbing up despite the fear. At the top they paused to see, The finish line waiting, far but free.

'Remember why you came today, To try your best, not just to play.' Kate wiped her eyes and stood up tall, 'I won't give up, I won't fall.' Jane smiled wide and said, 'That's right! Let's finish strong with all our might!'

Kate's heart grew brave, her fear grew small, She stood up straight, no longer small. 'I can do this!' she shouted out, No room left now for any doubt. Her feet moved fast, her arms swung wide, Jane cheered along right by her side. The wind picked up, it seemed to say, 'You've got this, Kate, keep going today!' The finish flags waved far ahead, Kate ran on, no longer in dread.
Nearing the finish, a crowd of runners cheers around them. Kate, in blue tank top, black running shorts, white tennis shoes, hair in a high ponytail, and Jane, in pink tank top, purple running shorts, blue tennis shoes, long red hair in two braids, run hand in hand, Kate smiling.

Jane's voice rang clear, Kate smiled wide, no longer near tears. The finish line came into sight, Kate ran with all her growing might. Hand in hand they crossed the grass, Watching the final moments pass.

They crossed the line, both hand in hand, The bravest team in all the land! Kate jumped up high with a happy shout, 'I did it, Jane, without a doubt!' Jane hugged her tight and said with pride, 'You were so brave, right by my side.' Kate's fear was gone, replaced with cheer, She'd finished her race, no longer in fear. Together they smiled beneath the sun, Kate's big race was finally won!
