At the mountain monastery, morning mist curled around stone steps. Sati, a calico cat with kind green eyes, sat quietly, watching the sunrise. Bells chimed softly in the wind. She breathed in the cool air, feeling calm and content. Nothing needed to happen — this moment was enough. Sati closed her eyes and smiled, ready for whatever the day might bring, one paw resting gently on the warm stone beneath her paws.

A sleek Siamese cat named Wealthy stumbled up the steps, dragging a shining blue fish. "Sati! Look!" he panted. "I caught the Magical Mackerel! Everyone said it was impossible!" The fish's big eyes blinked nervously. Sati tilted her head. "That is quite a prize," she said calmly. Wealthy puffed out his chest, though his paws trembled with tiredness. "Now everyone will know how amazing I am!" he declared, his eyes heavy with exhaustion.

"You should have seen it!" Wealthy exclaimed, pacing back and forth. "I climbed cliffs, dodged waterfalls, and outsmarted a giant heron!" The little Mackerel squeaked, "It's true! He never stopped, not even to rest!" Sati listened patiently. "That sounds like quite an adventure," she said. Wealthy nodded proudly, but his tail drooped. "I haven't slept in three days," he admitted quietly, glancing nervously at the fish clutched tightly in his paws.

A soft rustle came from the bushes. Luna, a black cat with big curious eyes, peeked out. "Ooh, what a pretty fish!" she said, padding closer. Wealthy hugged the Mackerel tightly. "Stay back! Someone might steal it!" Luna blinked, surprised. Sati smiled gently. "Luna means no harm, Wealthy. Perhaps you could rest instead of guarding so hard?" Wealthy shook his head firmly. "I can't rest. Not with something this precious."

That night, Wealthy sat stiffly by the temple wall, eyes wide open. Every rustle of leaves made him jump. "Who's there?" he hissed, clutching the Mackerel closer. The fish sighed, "You haven't slept at all." Wealthy shook his head. "I can't. What if someone takes you?" The moon rose high, but Wealthy's eyes stayed open, heavy with worry, as exhaustion crept deeper into his tired little body.

By morning, Wealthy's paws wobbled as he approached Sati. "I'm so tired," he whispered. "I thought this fish would make me happy, but I just feel scared all the time." Sati nodded kindly. "Great treasures can bring great worries," she said. Wealthy looked down at the Mackerel, whose big blue eyes blinked sadly. "I don't know what to do," Wealthy murmured, voice trembling with exhaustion and confusion.

Sati walked to a small bowl and took a tiny scrap of rice. She ate slowly, savoring each bite, eyes closed peacefully. Wealthy watched, puzzled. "That's it? Just plain rice?" Sati nodded. "I taste it fully, without worry of before or after." Luna added, "It looks so calm." Wealthy frowned, glancing at his fish. "But my mackerel is special. Shouldn't that make me happier than rice?"

"I don't understand," Wealthy said, pacing again. "I have the rarest fish in the mountains, yet I feel worse than ever!" Sati sat beside him. "A worried heart cannot enjoy even the finest treasure," she said softly. The Mackerel wiggled gently in his paws. "Maybe... it's not the fish's fault," it squeaked quietly. Wealthy paused, looking down at his trembling paws, thinking hard about her words.

"Being present means noticing this moment," Sati explained, "not guarding what might be lost." She pointed to the sunrise glowing gold over the mountains. "Look, Wealthy. This beauty is free for anyone who simply looks." Wealthy blinked, glancing up for the first time in days. Luna smiled. "It is pretty," she said. Wealthy felt something soften in his chest as he watched quietly.

Wealthy took a deep breath and looked at the Mackerel. "Maybe you deserve to swim free," he said gently. He carried the fish down to the clear mountain stream and set it into the water. The Mackerel flipped happily, blue scales sparkling. "Thank you, Wealthy!" it called, swimming off joyfully. Wealthy felt lighter already, his tired paws relaxing for the first time in days.

Wealthy returned to the temple steps where Sati and Luna sat together. He lowered himself down beside them, sighing deeply. "Can I learn to just... be still?" he asked. Sati smiled warmly. "Of course. Breathe in slowly," she guided. Wealthy closed his eyes, breathing with them. For the first time in days, his heart felt quiet, and his whiskers relaxed completely.

The three cats sat together as morning light spread across the mountains. Wealthy smiled softly, no longer chasing anything. "This feels nice," he whispered. Luna purred beside him. Sati nodded. "The present moment is the greatest treasure of all." Together, they watched the sunrise, hearts calm and full, needing nothing more than this simple, peaceful moment shared among friends.
