Mia felt something new in her mouth. It was a tiny tooth poking through her gum. 'My first tooth!' she smiled, feeling it with her tongue.

Mommy showed Mia pictures of teeth. 'Teeth help us eat yummy food,' she said. 'They also help us smile and talk.'

When Mia felt upset, she wanted to bite. Her mouth felt sore and biting seemed to help. But when she bit her friend Sam, he cried.

Sam had tears in his eyes. 'That hurts, Mia,' he said. Mia felt sad that she made her friend cry.

Mommy gave Mia a special teething ring. 'When your teeth hurt, bite this instead,' she said. 'Never bite people.'

At lunchtime, Mia used her new tooth. She bit into a soft banana. 'This is what teeth are for!' she thought.

Mia looked in the mirror and smiled big. Her little tooth showed. Everyone smiled back at Mia's happy face.

Mia's teeth helped her say new words. 'Thank you' and 'please' sounded clear. Talking was fun with teeth!

When Daddy took away a small toy, Mia felt mad. She wanted to bite, but remembered. Instead, she said, 'I'm angry!'

Mia and Sam played with blocks. When Sam took her favorite one, Mia used words. 'My turn please,' she said nicely.

Soon Mia had more teeth coming in. They sometimes felt sore. She chewed her teething ring, not her friends.

Mia's smile was bright with new teeth. She used them for eating, smiling, and kind words. Teeth are not for biting friends!
