Little Perri, four years old, had a wish she often told. "I want a puppy, soft and small, to run and play and fetch a ball!" Mom and Dad both smiled and said, "A puppy needs a loving bed." "You must be good, obedient too, then we will see what we can do!"

Perri nodded with a grin and said, "I'll be good, I will begin!" "I'll clean my toys and eat my greens, and be the best girl ever seen!" Dad said, "That's a lovely start, for being good comes from the heart." Mom gave a hug and said with cheer, "We'll watch you all throughout the year!"

Perri picked her toys up fast, and swept her room from wall to floor. "Look, Mom and Dad, my room's so neat, I even cleaned beneath my feet!" Mom smiled wide and said with pride, "You're doing great, my little bride." Dad winked and said, "Keep up this way, a puppy just might come one day!"

At dinnertime, Perri helped set plates, and carried spoons without delay. "Can I help wash the dishes too?" she asked with eyes so bright and true. Mom said, "Yes, that's very kind, a helpful heart is hard to find." Perri beamed with joy and pride, for doing good felt good inside.

At the park, Perri met a friend and shared her swing without a bend. "You can go first," she kindly said, and shared her cookies made of bread. Dad watched close and said with pride, "You're so kind, right by our side." Perri hugged him, sweet and true, "I just want to be good for you!"

That night, Mom and Dad did speak, "Our girl has been so good this week!" "She cleans, she helps, she shares with grace, a puppy's smile would fit this place!" Dad smiled wide and grabbed his coat, "Let's find a puppy we can devote." Mom nodded with a happy tear, "Our Perri's wish is finally near!"

The doorbell rang, oh what a sound, and Perri ran and looked around. There sat a puppy, light brown and small, wagging its tail, ready to fall right into Perri's waiting arms, full of love and puppy charms. "Meet Pippa!" Mom and Dad both said, as Perri's dream danced in her head!

Perri hugged her puppy tight, and Pippa licked her, pure delight! They ran and played the whole day through, fetching balls and jumping too. "Thank you, Mom and Dad," she said with glee, "this is the best day for you and me!" Being good brought her this treat, Perri and Pippa, forever complete!
