Emma ran home with a bright smile. "Mom, I made it! I'm in the school talent show!" she shouted. Her mother hugged her tight. "That's wonderful, sweetie!" Emma felt excited but a little worried too. She had two weeks to get ready. That night, she practiced her song over and over. Emma wanted everything to be perfect. She sang the words clearly and moved just right. Still, butterflies danced in her stomach.

The next day at school, Emma watched other kids practice. They all seemed so confident. "What if I forget the words?" Emma whispered to herself. Her hands felt shaky. During lunch, she barely ate her sandwich. Emma kept thinking about standing on that big stage. All those people would be watching her. The worry grew bigger and bigger inside her chest. She tried to smile but felt scared instead.

That evening, Emma sat quietly at dinner. Her mother noticed something was wrong. "What's bothering you, honey?" she asked gently. Emma looked down at her plate. "I'm scared about the talent show, Mom," she admitted softly. Her mother reached across the table and held her hand. "Let's talk after dinner," Mom said with a warm smile. Emma nodded, feeling a little bit better already.

Mom and Emma sat together on the cozy couch. "Remember when you were afraid of swimming lessons?" Mom asked. Emma nodded slowly. "God helped you then, didn't He?" Emma thought hard. She remembered feeling brave in the water after praying. "And remember your first day of school?" Mom continued. Emma smiled a little. "I prayed that morning," she recalled. "God has always been there for you," Mom said softly.

Mom opened her Bible to Psalm 138. "This psalm teaches us to thank God because He hears our prayers," she explained. Emma listened carefully. Mom read: "When I called, you answered me; you greatly emboldened me." Emma's eyes grew wide. "God gives us strength when we're afraid?" she asked. "Yes, sweetie. He's always listening," Mom answered. Emma felt warmth in her heart. "Can we pray together?" Emma asked hopefully.

Emma folded her hands and closed her eyes tight. "Dear God, thank You for always helping me," she prayed. "I'm scared about the talent show, but I know You're with me." Mom squeezed her hand gently. "Please give me strength and courage," Emma continued. "Help me do my best. Amen." When Emma opened her eyes, she felt calmer. The heavy worry felt lighter now. "Thank you, Mom," Emma whispered with a smile.

The next morning, Emma practiced her song again. This time felt different. She remembered God was listening to her prayers. Emma sang with more confidence. When she stumbled on a word, she didn't panic. "God gives me strength," she whispered to herself. She tried again and got it right. Each day, Emma practiced and prayed. The butterflies in her stomach got smaller and smaller. She was ready.

Finally, talent show day came. Emma wore her favorite blue dress. She felt nervous but not scared anymore. "Remember, God is with you," Mom said at breakfast. Emma smiled and nodded. At school, the auditorium buzzed with excitement. Emma peeked at all the seats filling up. Her heart beat fast. She closed her eyes. "Thank You, God, for giving me courage," she prayed quietly.

Emma stood backstage with the other performers. Her hands trembled slightly. She took a deep breath. "God hears my prayers," she reminded herself. The words from Psalm 138 echoed in her mind. When God calls, He answers. When we're weak, He makes us strong. Emma straightened her shoulders. She wasn't alone. God was right there with her. The announcer called her name. It was time to go on stage.

Emma walked onto the bright stage. The lights shone in her eyes. She saw the audience watching quietly. For a moment, fear tried to creep back. Then Emma remembered everything. She remembered God's help at swimming lessons and on her first school day. She remembered Psalm 138 and Mom's words. Emma took a deep breath and smiled. The music started. She opened her mouth and began to sing beautifully.

Emma's voice filled the auditorium clear and strong. She remembered every word perfectly. Her feet moved to the rhythm without thinking. Emma felt God's strength flowing through her. She wasn't thinking about being scared anymore. She was just singing and enjoying the moment. When the last note ended, Emma felt proud. She had done her very best. The audience clapped loudly. Emma's heart soared with joy and gratitude.

After the show, Emma found her mother. They hugged tight. "I'm so proud of you!" Mom said with tears of joy. Emma beamed. "I couldn't have done it without God's help, Mom," she said. "I prayed before going on stage." That night, Emma knelt by her bed. "Thank You, God, for hearing my prayers and giving me courage," she prayed. Emma learned that God is always near, helping us face anything with bravery.
