We have a cat called Smudgie
She’s black from head to toe
Her eyes are big and bright bright green
And she loves to hunt geckos
We found her as a kitten
She was skinny and so small
But once she had some kitty food
She grew up nice and tall

Her fur is black, her paws are black
Her tail is black as night
And when she jumps out from the shadows
We get a big big fright!
Now Smudgie is a little black cat
But sometimes acts a little crazy
That’s because her cat brain
Often goes all hazy

She runs around the living room
Bounces like a frog
So now she has the nickname
Smudgie the CatDog!
She follows us around the garden
Comes when she is called
Sometimes sits when she is told
Sometimes not at all

Her favourite food is roast chicken
She eats a lot for a cat
And when she’s in a happy mood
She loves a little pat

A little glove slips from the hallway shelf. "Rescue mission!" Smudgie mews, whiskers twitching. She carefully picks it up and trots homeward. On the rug, she drops it and pats proudly.

Smudgie meets her window reflection at night. "Woof-meow?" she tries, then giggles with purrs. The reflection copies, and they practice brave faces. "We guard this house," she whispers to herself.

Rain taps windows as Smudgie finds a paper ball. "Indoor fetch!" she cheers, springing across cushions. She skids, boops it, and catches with soft paws. "Proud CatDog," she purrs, hugging the crinkly prize.

Moonlight paints paths on the kitchen floor. "All clear," Smudgie murmurs, ears perked high. A soft creak whispers; she stands brave and tall. After a careful sniff, she curls beside the door.

A laundry basket waits as a sock peeks out. "Delivery time!" she chirps, tugging the runaway. She carries it to the mat and sits. "Best helper cat-dog," she hums, tail thumping.

Smudgie finds a tiny bell by the toys. "Ding for treats," she decides, tapping gently. Ding! She taps again, then sits as trained. "Patient CatDog waits," she purrs, proud and polite.

Morning streets bustle beyond the glass. "I guard and wave," Smudgie chirps, tail waggy. She tracks passing wheels, then returns to patrol. "Curious, cuddly, brave," she sings, trotting her rounds.

After adventures, Smudgie cuddles into a cozy curl. "I’m me," she purrs, "cat and dog in one." Her green eyes shimmer like friendly lanterns. The house feels safe, loved, and perfectly Smudgie.
