Saim the squirrel, wearing a bright red vest, stands confused next to the wise owl Mrs. Eubanks in their blue cardigan and round glasses. They look at five acorns marked 5 and a bush marked 3 under sunny morning light.
Saim the squirrel loved acorns, but oh no—he forgot where he hid them! "Crunch, crunch," went the leaves as he searched. Suddenly, Mrs. Eubanks the wise owl swooped down. "Hoo hoo, Saim! I can help," she said. "But first, solve this: if you hid 5 acorns under the big oak and 3 more under the bush, how many acorns are there in all?" Saim scratched his head. "Let's count together!"
Saim, in his red vest, digs energetically under the large oak tree while holding exactly six acorns. Mrs. Eubanks, in her blue cardigan, hovers above with a curious expression, watching him count the missing two.
Saim counted on his fuzzy paws. "5 plus 3... that's 8!" he cheered. Zoom! He raced to the big oak tree. But when he dug, he found only 6 acorns. "Uh-oh," said Mrs. Eubanks. "How many acorns are missing?" Saim thought hard. "8 take away 6 equals 2!" he said. "Two acorns must be somewhere else!" Hop, hop, Saim bounced around the tree, searching for the missing acorns with excitement.
Saim, in his red vest, points happily at a large pile of seven acorns near the bushes. Mrs. Eubanks, in her blue cardigan, smiles as Saim ignores the smaller pile of four acorns under soft midday light.
Saim found two piles of acorns near the bushes. One pile had 4 acorns, the other had 7. "Which pile has more?" asked Mrs. Eubanks. Saim counted carefully. "7 is more than 4!" he said proudly. "That means the bigger pile must be my missing stash!" Crunch, crunch, he hopped over and grabbed the acorns. Mrs. Eubanks smiled. "Great job comparing numbers, Saim! You're getting closer."
Saim, wearing his red vest, leaps joyfully next to a neat row of fifteen acorns. Mrs. Eubanks, in her blue cardigan, flies down and grins as crunchy autumn leaves float around them in the golden afternoon sun.
Saim had 8 acorns from the oak and 7 more from the bushes. "Let's add them all up!" said Mrs. Eubanks. Saim counted slowly: "8 plus 7 equals 15!" Zoom! He did a happy hop. "I found all my acorns!" Mrs. Eubanks hooted proudly. "You solved every problem, Saim. You're a math hero!" Saim grinned, munching a crunchy acorn, ready for his next adventure.
