Princess Marie twirled through the castle halls, pretending to be a brave explorer. Suddenly, a soft beep echoed from somewhere far away. She stopped and listened closely. Beep! Beep! The sound seemed to come from upstairs. Marie's eyes widened with curiosity. "What could that be?" she wondered, gripping her toy sword. She decided to follow the sound and find out what was beeping in her beautiful castle.

Marie tiptoed up the spiral staircase, her ears perked for every beep. The noise grew louder near the library. She peeked behind tall bookshelves and under velvet curtains, but found nothing. Beep! Beep! It echoed again, this time from the hallway ceiling. Marie looked up and saw a small white box blinking a tiny red light. "Found you!" she giggled. She knew she needed help to reach it, so she ran to find someone who could help.

Marie found Sir Thomas, the kind castle caretaker, polishing suits of armor. "Sir Thomas, something is beeping near the ceiling!" she exclaimed. He smiled and followed her to the hallway. Looking up, he nodded. "That's our smoke detector, Princess." "It beeps when its battery is low." He explained that smoke detectors warn families if there's ever a fire, keeping everyone safe. Marie listened carefully, amazed that such a tiny box could protect the whole castle.

Sir Thomas fetched a ladder and a fresh battery. Marie held the flashlight steady while he opened the detector and swapped the battery. Click! The beeping stopped at last. "Now it will watch over us while we sleep," he said. Marie smiled proudly, feeling like a true safety hero. From then on, she checked the detectors every month, making sure her castle—and her family—stayed safe and sound.
