Mia laughed as she tossed a red ball across the yard. Catucha, her wrinkly bulldog, waddled quickly to catch it. The sun was warm, and flowers bloomed all around Mom's garden. 'Good girl, Catucha!' Mia cheered, patting the dog's flat head. They played fetch again and again, until Catucha's tail wagged so hard it knocked over a watering can. Mia giggled, not knowing bigger trouble was coming soon.

Chasing the ball too fast, Mia bumped into Mom's favorite clay pot. CRASH! It shattered into pieces on the patio. Catucha barked, startled by the noise. Mia's heart raced. 'Oh no,' she whispered, staring at the broken flowers scattered everywhere. She quickly swept some pieces under a bush, hoping no one would notice. Catucha tilted her head, confused by Mia's nervous actions, unaware of what had just happened.

Mom walked outside, gasping at the mess. 'What happened here?' she asked, worried. Mia's cheeks turned pink. 'Catucha broke it,' she said quickly, pointing at the dog. Catucha blinked, confused, her stubby tail stopping its wag. Mom frowned softly, looking at the sad bulldog. 'Oh, Catucha, you have to be careful,' she said, patting the dog's head. Mia stayed silent, guilt twisting inside her stomach like a knot.

That evening, Catucha lay quietly by the door, not eating her dinner. Mia noticed the dog's droopy eyes looked sadder than usual. 'Are you okay, girl?' Mia asked, kneeling beside her. Catucha nuzzled Mia's hand gently, but didn't wag her tail. Mia's chest ached, remembering the lie she told. She hugged her dog tightly. 'I'm sorry,' she whispered, though Catucha couldn't understand the words, only feel the hug.

Mia tossed and turned in her bed, unable to sleep. The lie kept replaying in her mind like a scary movie. She thought about Catucha's sad face and Mom's disappointed look. 'This isn't right,' she whispered to herself. Climbing out of bed, she tiptoed downstairs, finding Catucha curled on her blanket. The bulldog lifted her wrinkly head, as if waiting patiently for Mia to find her courage.

Mia sat beside Catucha, stroking her soft ears. 'I have to tell the truth tomorrow,' she said firmly. Catucha licked her hand, as if agreeing with the plan. Mia felt a little less scared, knowing her loyal friend was there beside her. She took a deep breath and smiled weakly. 'Thanks for listening, girl,' she said. Together, they fell asleep on the cozy living room floor that night.

The next morning, Mia found Mom making breakfast in the kitchen. Her hands shook slightly as she spoke. 'Mom, I need to tell you something important,' Mia said nervously. 'I broke the flower pot, not Catucha. I was scared, so I lied.' Mom set down her spoon, surprised but calm. 'Thank you for telling me the truth, sweetheart,' she said softly, pulling Mia into a warm hug.

'I'm not mad about the pot,' Mom explained gently. 'Accidents happen all the time.' But lying made Catucha take the blame for something she didn't do. Mia nodded, feeling both relieved and ashamed. 'I'm sorry, Mom. I'm sorry, Catucha,' she said, glancing at her dog. Catucha's tail wagged happily, as if forgiving her instantly. Mom smiled proudly. 'That took real courage, Mia. I'm proud of you.'

Mom and Mia gathered the broken pieces of the old pot. 'Let's plant something new together,' Mom suggested cheerfully. They picked a bright blue pot from the shed and filled it with soil. Catucha dug happily beside them, sniffing the fresh dirt with excitement. Mia planted bright yellow marigolds, smiling as her guilt faded away. 'This one's even prettier,' she said, patting Catucha's wrinkly back warmly.

After planting flowers, Mia and Catucha played fetch again, more carefully this time. The bulldog waddled joyfully across the lawn, tail wagging nonstop. Mia noticed how happy Catucha seemed now that the truth was out. 'I promise to always be honest,' Mia told her furry friend. Catucha barked cheerfully in response, as if she understood every word. Their bond felt stronger than ever under the sunny sky.

At dinner, Mia told Mom how much better she felt after telling the truth. 'It felt heavy carrying that secret,' she admitted. Mom nodded wisely. 'Truth might feel scary at first, but it always makes things lighter in the end.' Catucha rested her head on Mia's lap, snoring softly. Mia giggled, scratching her ears. 'Even Catucha agrees,' she said, grinning at her sleepy, wrinkly best friend.

Weeks later, the marigolds bloomed brightly in their new blue pot. Mia looked at them proudly, remembering the lesson she'd learned. Catucha sat beside her, tail thumping happily against the patio floor. 'Telling the truth made everything better,' Mia said, smiling at her loyal bulldog. From that day on, whenever things got hard, Mia remembered her brave choice—and Catucha's unconditional, wrinkly-faced support, right by her side.
