Wearing a blue hoodie and gray sweatpants, Ethan slumps in a cozy armchair, face lit by a tablet screen. Mom, in a white blouse and dark blue skirt, stands worried in the doorway beside Mia, who wears a yellow t-shirt and denim shorts while holding a notebook.
Ethan sat glued to his glowing screen, tapping and swiping, lost in between. Mom called, “Dinner’s ready, come eat!” But Ethan stayed still in his cozy seat. “Just one more level,” he said with a grin, not hearing Mom’s worried voice sink in. Mia peeked in, her homework in hand. “Ethan, please join us, let’s make a plan.” But Ethan just shrugged, eyes fixed on the light, missing the stars and the soft evening night.
Ethan yawns at his desk, homework crumpled, while Mr. Reyes stands beside him with a gentle smile under classroom fluorescent light. Friends wave from the doorway, but Ethan looks down.
At school the next day, Mr. Reyes saw Ethan yawning, his homework incomplete. “Where’s your assignment?” the teacher asked kind. Ethan looked down, words stuck in his mind. “I was playing games till very late,” he whispered softly, feeling irate. His eyes felt heavy, his grades took a dip. Friends waved hello, but he gave them the slip. Mr. Reyes smiled, “Let’s find a new way to balance your screen with fun and play.”
Mom sits at the kitchen table holding a hand-drawn weekly schedule, while Ethan nods, smiling. Mia cheers beside them, and Mr. Reyes looks on approvingly near the window.
That evening Mom sat with Ethan so near. “Let’s make a schedule, nothing to fear. Screen time at six, then games with the sun, homework comes first, then let the fun run.” Mia cheered, “I’ll help you stay strong, we’ll ride our bikes, and sing a fun song!” Ethan nodded, a smile on his face. “I’ll try my best, in this new paced race.” Mr. Reyes added, “Small steps bring big gain, balance will help you, through sunshine and rain.”
At the dinner table, Ethan sits in a blue hoodie and gray sweatpants talking happily with no screen in hand. Mia smiles in her yellow t-shirt and denim shorts, while Mom beams proudly across the table wearing a white blouse and dark blue skirt.
Days passed by, Ethan felt light and free, homework done early, now time to see. He rode his bike with Mia so fast, laughing out loud, having a blast. At dinner he talked, no screen in his hand. Mom smiled proudly, this was the plan. Mr. Reyes said, “Great job, well done, you found the balance, now shine like the sun!” Ethan grinned wide, his heart full of cheer. Technology’s a tool, not something to fear.
